Got A Reponsive Website?
The Word Responsive is a loosely used word in the web design world which may have caused some confusion to many.
So what does Responsive websites mean?
Before we get into when there or not your site is responsive let’s start at the basics.
Web design and development has come a really far way. So has mobile devices. Because mobile devices come in different sizes and shape, writing code for a website for your home computer won’t work for mobile devices. Here’s an example of what a website written in 2009 looks like on an iPhone 7+ Following how I’m fixing this site to be responsive to all devices.
Before Responsiveness – Mobile view

Notice that it doesn’t resize but keeps the same proportion as if you were viewing it from a desktop. Here is the re-written website of a responsive site in mobile view:
Re-written responsive site – Mobile View

But responsive doesn’t only refer to just mobile devices. You have other devices like iPads and other larger smart devices. After re-writing this website, this is an example of how responsiveness works with other device sizes:
True Website Responsiveness

With most people using smart devices to visit your site this is a huge deal. If they can’t read your site because the words are too small they won’t fuss. They’ll just leave move on to your competitors site.
I’m a visual learner so hopefully this blog helped you see a visual example of true responsiveness is.
Your Challenge
I challenge you to check out your site and see how well it is designed for responsiveness. One thing that you can do if you’re looking at your site on your desktop browser is you can check the responsiveness yourself. Drag and resize your browser size by dragging your mouse to the end of the browser until you see the resize arrows. Drag the end of the browser to the left so that the window is small. You can mimmick resizing the size of an iPad or small smartphone device. If your site does not resize according to the window size then your site is not responsive.
You can also check your site using your own device. Don’t be surprised because you may not like what you see. No worries.
